#### THE CLAIM

*Anarchy After Leftism* styles Murray “Dean Bookchin” or “the Dean” on nearly every page, resting on the claim of a “providential appointment as a Dean at Goddard College” and the insinuation of a comfortable academic income funding his ambitions.

#### THE RECORD

He was never a dean. His reply was direct and checkable: his name appears nowhere in the college catalog Black cited, and he had ended his professional connections with Goddard College — and Ramapo College — in 1981, sixteen years before Black’s book. He invited anyone who doubted it to telephone the college.

His finances, in his own words at the time: “I live on a pension and Social Security, both of them paltry.” The biography the epithet erases is the one anarchists might care about most: nearly three decades of manual work first — a foundryman in New Jersey, an autoworker for General Motors, a union man through the great CIO era — the shop-floor education that shaped his lifelong case for organization.

> “Black’s claim is an outright fabrication. My name appears nowhere in that catalog nor in any other recent edition.”

#### THE METHOD

A false title, sustained by sheer repetition — in Murray’s words, “presumably on the assumption that mere repetition will make my title a reality.” Repetition is not evidence.
